Adrian Jacobo studied Physics at the University of Mar del Plata, in his native Argentina. He then did a Ph.D. in Physics at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems in Mallorca, Spain, where he studied pattern formation and information processing in non-linear optical systems. As a Guest Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems, he learned how to apply theoretical tools from physics to biological phenomena. Then, as a postdoctoral associate at Rockefeller University’s Hudspeth Lab, Jacobo applied some of these tools to study the development and regeneration of mechanosensory epithelia. During this work he also learned experimental techniques in zebrafish, including imaging and transgenic manipulation, and began studying the lateral line as a model system. At CZ Biohub SF, his work combines microscopy, zebrafish genetics, AI image processing, and theoretical tools to build a quantitative and predictive understanding of organogenesis.
